Date Rape Drugs

“Date Rape Drugs”

If you suspect that you may have been drugged, immediately seek help from a friend, call 911 or go to an emergency room at the nearest hospital. Don’t urinate before going. If you must urinate, save your urine and bring it with you—we will test your urine for drugs. You should also have a complete exam from our Forensic Nurse.

Consider Being Tested for Date Rape Drugs if:

  • You were out drinking and had too few drinks to account for a high level of intoxication—you suddenly felt “strange” or “very drunk”
  • You may still have appeared “normal” to others and been able to walk away with the assailant, although unsteady on your feet
  • You became very intoxicated within a matter of 5-15 minutes after drinking out of a drink that was given to you or left unattended
  • You woke up having lost several (3-8) hours of conscious memory, uncertain if you had been assaulted
  • You may be experiencing soreness, have no clothes on, are with someone you don’t remember going to bed with and have no or spotty memory of what happened
  • You remember waking up and possibly seeing the attack—as if in a dream—but were unable to move and passing out again

Rohypnol and GHB

These drugs have the reputation as the most common date rape drugs; however, alcohol is the most readily used and available. Combined with prescription and over the counter medications, such as sleeping pills, Benadryl, TylenolPM and anti-depressants, alcohol is a widely used sedative. These items and others are frequently slipped into alcoholic drinks to “knock out” or “relax” a victim so that an assailant may assault them.
