St. Croix Valley Sexual Assault Response Team is seeking a part-time advocate. This position will support survivors of sexual violence through crisis line support, medical exam advocacy/accompaniment, and follow up survivor support as needed. This position will report to the Advocacy and Community Outreach Coordinator.

The part-time advocate has the ability to create their own schedule working 16-20hours a week in office as well as covering on-call hours a few days a week and one weekend a month.

The primary work of the part-time advocate is to support survivors of sexual violence in crisis. The secondary work of the position is to support the advocacy coordinator in completing tasks such as: creation of resources guides for survivors, recruiting/supporting volunteer advocates, researching data, statics, and resources, creating and posting social media content to Facebook, Instagram, ect. and attending community events and presentations.

SCV-SART is looking for a reliable, well-organized person who can work in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have experience (professional or volunteer) in crisis support/management, trauma informed, survivor centered care. Knowledge of interpersonal violence, sexual assault, domestic violence, and human trafficking. Experience working with youth and young adults is beneficial. Training or experience serving diverse communities.

Part-time Advocate St. Croix Valley Sexual Assault Response Team

General Information:

  • 15-20hours a week
    • All shifts will be in office, shift hours are semi flexible
    • Preferably repeating schedule (example: every Tuesday/Thursday/Friday)
    • Availability to attend support group every other Tuesday evening from 5p-9p, at least 1-2 times per month
    • Schedule will be set on the 15th of the month for the following full month and is approved by advocacy coordinator
      • Providing some flexibility for needs of survivors (multiple survivors have court in one day, etc.)
  • 5-10 days on-call per month (12hr or 24hr shifts pending what works for both advocates schedule)
    • On-call shifts are to answer calls as they come into the crisis line and to respond to medical advocacy requests for exams or law enforcement interviews
    • Advocate must be able to respond to location of exam or interview within one hour of request.
  • Part-time Advocate will report to the Advocacy and Community Outreach Coordinator

Advocacy:

  • Crisis line support:
    • Answer all calls while on shift: in office or on-call
    • Identify need of caller:
      • If person in crisis: identify safety, needs, and support. Provide education and options to caller. Allow person in crisis to process, deescalate, and provide support though experience.
      • If community partner: law enforcement or hospital: provide coordination and set up of medical exam, accompaniment to law enforcement interview, or other service as requested.
  • Medical exam:
    • Will provide advocacy at medical examinations as requested by survivor when on-call/on-shift.
    • Will be trained in SART protocols and procedures for this by advocacy coordinator
    • Provide support, education, and options to survivor while in attendance at medical exam. Completing necessary paperwork, assisting with supporting survivor through exam, addressing needs (such as shelter, support, safety, etc.) post exam.
  • Law Enforcement and court accompaniment:
    • Attend law enforcement interviews with survivor as requested
      • When on-call/on-shift or if scheduled during office hours
    • Attend court with survivors as requested & scheduled during office hours (as needed and approved by advocacy coordinator)
  • Follow up care:
    • Provide follow-up support to survivors post medical exam
    • Complete all paperwork for client interactions before shift has ended (including crisis line calls, medical exams, setup of exams, accompaniments, etc.)
      • Included paperwork needed to update survivor file or complete survey monkey for interaction
  • Teen Support Group
    • Group meets every other Tuesday evening 6p-8p, advocate would be required to be available 5p-9p for set up, support, and shutdown of group/center.
    • Attend group meetings, support survivors in their healing process, help run group through activities, etc.

Support to Advocacy Coordinator:

  • Assist Advocacy Coordinator in all projects as assigned, including but not limited to:
    • Social Media posts, campaigns (awareness days, violence prevention information, etc.), and messaging for SCV-SART on Facebook, Instagram, other media platforms
    • Creating materials digital or physical through the use of Canva or other programs for social media, fundraisers, brochures, other projects as assigned
    • Assisting with fundraising committee tasks, event planning, and event support.
    • Updating Annual report
    • Updates to trainings, presentations, other materials used to present to the community and SCV-SART staff
    • Updates to resources and referrals lists, verifying correct, updating materials given to survivor or other staff:
      • Counseling/therapy lists, health care access, housing, food, shelter, other community resources
      • After care guides
      • County resources
  • Attend as an assigned by the advocacy coordinator:
    • Community events where SCV-SART is participating (where schedule allows)
      • Example: Taste of River Falls, College health fairs, national night out, etc.
    • School presentations if determined needed by advocacy coordinator
      • Ideally part-time advocate will be in office or covering on-call response while advocacy coordinator is at school presentation or committed elsewhere.
      • Some school situations (day long presentations 4-5 in 1 day) will require co-presentation support from part-time advocate
    • Fundraising events (where schedule allows)
