Volunteer Response Advocate (VRA’s)

The Volunteer Response Advocate position is an on-call position with 6-8 flexible shifts per month. Our Volunteer Response Advocates provide 24/7 advocacy services to victims of interpersonal violence. While on-call, our advocates can go about their day to day lives with the notion that they may have to respond to a crisis call. The On –Call Volunteer Response Advocate is responsible for providing immediate crisis intervention, emotional support, information and referrals to victims of sexual assault and interpersonal violence through SART’s 24-hour Crisis line. The Volunteer Response Advocate also provides accompaniment to the forensic nurse exam at one of the hospitals SART contracts with in the St. Croix and Pierce County area as well as accompaniment to law enforcement interviews if the client wishes.

Crisis Line Response Advocates:

This is a part-time variable on call position from home, involving 24-hour coverage including weekends and holidays. The Crisis Line Advocate is responsible for providing immediate crisis intervention, emotional support, information, and referrals to victims of sexual assault through SART’s 24-hour Crisis line. Calls will be connected to the advocates cell phone and they will assist and direct the call as needed. The Crisis Line Advocate will also be responsible for dispatching the appropriate services providers i.e., SANE Nurses, Advocates, etc. to meet the survivor at local hospitals for SANE Exams.

Key responsibilities are:

  • Respond immediately to crisis calls, ascertain the victim’s immediate needs, and provide crisis intervention and information and referral services.
  • Educate the victim on all options including to seek medical forensic examination and accompany, when appropriate.
  • Provides emotional support, and comfort to the victim and victim’s loved ones as services are being coordinated.
  • Offer victims information, as appropriate, regarding local resources for immediate safety and/or shelter.
  • Dispatch appropriate staff on call to an exam (including but not limited to the SANE Nurse and Advocate)
  • Support local hospitals and law enforcement staff as they call asking questions (this may include connecting them to coordinator on call or other appropriate staff to answer a question they have).
  • On-call 6-8 eight hour shifts per month (1 shift= 8 hours) Must submit two available weekend shifts per month
